Julian, 11, was expelled from school after abusing a classmate. In an effort to change his attitude toward life, his Jewish grandmother begins telling him her own story of courage, recounting her youth spent in Nazi-occupied France during World War II. Taken in by a boy and his family, she falls in love with the toddler, living in a completely fabricated imaginary world, while his mother risks her life to protect her young charge.
